Signs of spring are everywhere along the route of Path of the Paddle. Our long northern winters mean paddling time is precious. If you were lucky enough to get out on the water this past Victoria Long Weekend you know this.
We wait patiently for the promise of warmth from the sun. We watch as our lakes, ponds and rivers open up and we can no longer resist the urge to get on the water. Spring paddling is a reprieve from the winter months. Bug free days, warmer weather and silence greet those who venture forth. Early May is a wonderful time to listen to the birds returning, the growing chorus of frogs and the wind rustling through the newly emerging leaves.
Whatever draws you to the wild, you are part of a group of dedicated people working towards the development, stewardship and sustainability of water trails, including the Trans Canada Trail in northwestern Ontario.
